About ClipsKeep
ClipsKeep is run by Edson Vasconcelos, from Brazil. The idea came from a very ordinary moment: I wanted to send a funny Facebook video to my family's group chat and, to download it, I had to wade through sites full of pop-ups, tabs opening on their own and fake download buttons. In the end I was worried I'd installed a virus.
If a two-minute video gave me that much trouble, I can only imagine how it feels for people with less patience for technology. So I decided to build a site that does just this one thing, as simply as possible: paste the link and download the video.
The site's principles
- No pop-ups, new tabs or redirects. Only what you asked for happens on screen.
- Ads kept away from what matters. The site needs advertising to pay for the server, but ads stay away from the link box and the download buttons, and they're always labelled.
- No sign-up. There's no account, we don't ask for your email and we never ask for your Facebook login.
- Respect for the people who post. The site only downloads public videos and honours requests from creators who don't want their videos available here.
- Nothing is kept. Videos pass through the server straight from Facebook to you, with no copies. The only exception is a clip you cut, which stays on the server for at most 15 minutes, just so you can download it.
How the site works
When you paste a link, the server opens the video's public page, finds the files Facebook itself makes available and shows you the quality options. If Facebook stores picture and sound separately, the server joins them so the video doesn't arrive silent. To do this, the site relies on well-known open-source tools such as yt-dlp and ffmpeg.
ClipsKeep has no connection with Facebook or Meta Platforms, Inc.
